Activist charged over Sabre threat
HIGH-PROFILE and relentless peace activist Bryan Law was arrested yesterday over his threat to damage defence force helicopters in Rockhampton for Talisman Sabre.
The determined protester has been spreading his message against the military exercise around the region in past weeks and yesterday was arrested after agreeing to a police interview.
Rockhampton police CIB Plain Clothes Constable Kevin Mawdsley said Mr Law voluntarily accompanied police to the station about 3pm yesterday and after an interview was charged with threatening to damage a division three aircraft under the Commonwealth Aviation Act.
He said upon arrest police also discovered a small amount of cannabis on his person and Mr Law was also charged with possession of a dangerous drug.
Const Mawdsley said the charges were in relation to comments Mr Law made in an interview with Bully journalist Nikita Watts, in an interview with Seven News in Cairns and in the police interview.
He said Mr Law was very co-operative and was released on bail after being charged.
It is believed Mr Law plans to attend today's Talisman Sabre Open Day at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
He is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 25.
