Peace Pilgrims to target military exercise with US
ONE HUNDRED "peace pilgrims" plan to disrupt next year's Exercise Talisman Sabre at the Shoalwater Bay Military Training Area.
Greg Rolles, the organiser of the 100 Peace Pilgrim project, said the intention was to hinder and eventually stop the US military from being based, and training, in Australia.
"We aim to end the US-Australia military alliance," Mr Rolles said.
"The US military is the largest and most aggressive military force on Earth," he said.
"Since the end of WW2 it has been constantly engaged in wars of aggression which, because of the US-Australian military alliance, have cost over 1000 Australian lives and cost Australian taxpayers billions in wasted war spending."
Talisman Sabre is a biennial exercise which involves thousands of troops from the Australian Defence Force and the United States Military.
Mr Rolles said the pilgrims' resistance would be creative and non-violent, inspired by the teachings of Jesus, Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Dorothy Day, Kathy Kelly and the women of Code Pink.
