Addict split 3.5g of ice into individual bags for 'his' use

A CONVICTED drug trafficker claims his obsessive compulsive disorder made him bag up 3.5g of ice and 6g of marijuana and that he had no intention of selling the drugs.

Sunshine Coast man Trevor Garry Wieland also urged Justice John Bond to give him a light sentence as he feared being raped and bashed in prison.

The 51-year-old long-term drug user pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Tuesday to four drug possession and trafficking charges.

In rejecting Wieland's suggestion that he was consuming the drugs himself, Justice Bond sentenced him to 18 months in jail, with parole eligibility after six months.

Crown prosecutor Melissa Wilson said police found more than 3.5g of ice and 6g of marijuana in Wieland's car during a routine traffic stop in Nambour on February 29, 2016.

The drugs were worth more than $1400.

Ms Wilson said police also found $500, three sets of scales, a safe, two mobile phones, empty clip seal bags, a smoking pipe and other items associated with trafficking and drug use in the disability pensioner's vehicle.

Wieland's defence barrister Simone Bain told the court her client had multiple psychiatric illnesses and because he was a small-framed man, he feared prison thugs and rapists would target him.

Ms Bain said her client had found God and would not return to using drugs after he was released from jail.

Addressing Justice Bond himself, Wieland said the drugs were for his own use and his obsessive-compulsive disorder made him weigh the ice and marijuana and store it in individual bags.

"I will never ever use drugs again,” Wieland said.

"I'm very sorry.”

The court heard Wieland started using drugs when he was 18 and he had previously served time for trafficking and possession.

He will be eligible for parole in November. - NEWS REGIONAL
