BRISBANE artist Michael Zavros will open his exhibit, The Prince, tonight at Rockhampton Art Gallery.

The Prince | Michael Zavros is a collection of paintings and drawings inspired by advertising and fashion that reflect the power of a great image.

Michael has been exhibiting his artwork for a decade and a half now in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne galleries.

Michael said he had always enjoyed art and painting.

"My mother always said I was good at drawing from a young age," he said.

"She used to buy me drawing books and things like that to encourage me to keep going."

This specific collection was inspired by American photographer Richard Prince.

Michael revisits Prince's Untitled (cowboy) series in this exhibition.

"Richard Prince used to photograph images on advertising billboards and reconfigured them as his own," he said. "And now I've painted his photographs and introduced a modern touch for a contemporary audience."

The exhibition will be on display at Rockhampton Art Gallery from today to Sunday, April 7.
