Afghanistan explosion kills five Americans

AN EXPLOSION in Afghanistan has killed five Americans - three soldiers and two civilians - and an Afghan doctor.

The International Security Assistance Force led by Nato reported the six were killed when a suicide bomber detonated a car loaded with explosives on the weekend.

Nato is in the process of handing security operations to Afghan forces.

Although some control has already been transferred, more than 100,000 soldiers were still serving with ISAF.

They are expected to be withdrawn by the end of next year.
