AFP officer dies in Melbourne CBD shooting

A FEDERAL police member has died in a non-suspicious shooting at the AFP's Melbourne headquarters this morning.

The tragedy happened at the force's La Trobe St base about 9am.

An AFP spokeswoman confirmed police and ambulance crews responded.

"An AFP member has died as a result of a gunshot wound," she said.

"The incident remains under investigation and while this is being undertaken, including notification to family members, the AFP will not be making further comment at this time.

"There is no threat to the community."

Victoria Police spokeswoman Lauren Kells said: "Victoria Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of a person in Melbourne's CBD this morning."

"The person received a gunshot wound while in a Latrobe Street building and died at the scene about 9am,'' she said.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident."

The incident comes just nine months after a female AFP agent died in a non-suspicious shooting at the same building.
