82-year-old keeps with fellow 30-year-old gym goers
AT 82, Rita Zeil could easily keep up with those 30 years her junior at the gym.
The Yeppoon woman said before moving to Australia from Bavaria 18 years ago, she would often mountain hike and was always active.
"I've been doing sport all my life," she said, heading to a class at Yeppoon Health and Fitness Centre.
"It's important to keep moving for as long as possible, because once you stop, you lose it.
"As long as you've got the determination you can do it, no matter what age."
Rita is known for her ability to complete an impressive five-minute plank and is one of up to 20 locals who take the seniors classes at the centre every Tuesday and Friday.
This includes enjoying a coffee together afterwards.
"I love the interaction and working in a group gets you more motivated to keep pushing yourself," member Niree Wilkinson said.
Centre owner and instructor Susie Cervai said she hoped to be as fit as her seniors' group when she reached that age.
"They're an inspiration, and it is true to the saying 'move it or lose it'," she said.
"It's better for your quality of life. And they're so much fun to train."
