Agnes to boast best surf club on the coast
CLUB captain Mac Laurie reckons it’s going to be “the best surf club on the whole coast” and judging by the position, the view and the expansive upper level, there can’t be many better places for a drink and a meal.
“Most clubs have to share space, but this will be all ours. It’s just fantastic — and what a position,” Mac said.
Underneath the club has plenty of office space, club rooms and storage for boats and all the club gear with a view to expanding the life saving club services to the people of Agnes Water and the Town of 1770 and the many visitors who enjoy the beaches each year.
Mac also doubles as the club’s chief instructor and his real input is on the beach, while Agnes Water Surf Lifesaving Club president Brian Lloyd has the major focus of getting the new clubhouse up and running and a supporters’ club in place.
“We probably won’t make Christmas, but things are pretty much on track to get open early in the new year,” Mr Lloyd said.
“There has been plenty of interest and the supporters’ club will be vital. The supporters’ club will own the (liquor) licence, with their job to support the club (financially).”
The club is holding an open day and public forum next Saturday, November 14 to get public feedback and ideas on the role of the club, and to provide an opportunity to recruit new members and get the community involved in the club and the project.
President of the Discovery Coast Tourism and Commerce Inc Gordon Christian is helping drive the supporters’ club, along with a club committee.
