Alison is highest CQ fundraiser
WHEN Alison Moody took on the Challenge for Cancer she wanted to beat her own personal record.
After 11 months of hard work and persistence the 63-year-old raised $47,500 for Cancer Council Queensland.
Alison not only doubled her own record, having raised $24,500 the previous year, but was named this year’s highest Central Queensland fundraiser.
Even though the Challenge is over for the year, Alison won’t be having a rest.
She has started fundraising for the Heart Foundation and also assists at the Red Cross Blood Service each Tuesday.
Alison, a pensioner, said Rockhampton Christmas shoppers can help donate to the Heart Foundation by getting their gifts wrapped at Stockland Rockhampton up until December 24.
Alison became heavily involved in fundraising for local charities four years ago after her friend Rachael Speechley, Red Cross community relations officer, convinced her to help out.
She hasn’t stopped since.
This year Alison’s fundraising activities included barefoot bowls days, a Big Morning Tea, charity bike ride, pie and lamington drive, selling flowers on Daffodil Day, hosting a Girls Night In and organising Relay for Life teams.
Cancer Council regional fundraising co-ordinator Kim Walters yesterday praised Alison’s fundraising effort.
“Alison has tirelessly given her time in her effort to help raise important funds and awareness of the Cancer Council.”
