AN environmental initiative undertaken by organisers of the Woodford Folk Festival is being piloted this year in an attempt to introduce viable public transport systems for day visitors.

The "Woodford Express" initiative will be launched with simultaneous express shuttles departing from Nambour, Maroochydore and Caloundra every day of the festival.

Services will depart 10am each day, departing the festival for the return journey at 11pm, except on New Year's Eve when the returning bus will depart the festival at 1am.

The cost of the return journey is only an added $25 on top of the normal day-ticket prices (which are currently discounted until 24th December 2013).  An adult Woodford Express ticket is currently $132, Youths are $100 and Children are just $32 for a day ticket.  Toddlers 0-5yrs are free.

Organisers are hoping that the Woodford Express service will work to reduce travellers' emissions by bus-pooling, reduce traffic congestion around Woodfordia and offer services to people who don't have access to private vehicles. It will also serve patrons who'd like to have a few drinks on their day out.

"We've spoken to our Police services who are pleased with the direction we're taking. Reducing the traffic around the festival would be a great result all round" said Hauritz.

In a bid to attract new local patrons as well as those visiting, the concept was designed to better connect the festival to the Sunshine Coast region as its quintessential summer festival event.

"The Woodford Express is an exciting initiative from the team at the Woodford Folk Festival. This service will allow easy access to and from the event for visitors and will provide a perfect day trip option to compliment a Sunshine Coast holiday," says Simon Ambrose, CEO of Sunshine Coast Destinations.

"The one-day ticket is a perfect first time experience for any festival new-comer, but this isn't your average one-day tour.  You'll be in the actual festival for close to 12 hours, and there is simply so much so see, do, hear, eat, join, talk about and experience," says Hauritz.

"Value for money is really important.  I've seen concerts that go for only an hour or two that cost more than a day ticket to Woodford, where I can be entertained non-stop all day, rain or shine.  Adding transport for such as small fee is huge bonus," says Sunshine Coast resident, Tracey Milloy.

The Woodford Express marks a major step forward for organisers embracing the region in its activities and facilities.  Festival Organisers will consider rolling out a more expansive shuttle service at next year's festival, possibly including more locations on the Sunshine Coast and south to Brisbane, if this pilot project is a success.

WOODFORD EXPRESS TICKETS

Tickets for the Woodford Express can only be purchased online or by phone.  Ticketing policies including existing youth guardians apply to Woodford Express tickets.

Sunshine Coast media getting behind the project include Sunshine Coast Daily, ABC Coast FM, SEA and MIX FM and more.

The organisers of the Festival acknowledge and thank them for their support.
