LATEST:

PUMICESTONE MP Rick Williams has been taken off the Queensland Government's legal affairs committee one day after the Courier Mail's report containing numerous allegations against him.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced he would be stood down while police investigated the claims.

The Courier Mail reported the allegations were untested and after the report was published the newspaper handed over the statutory declarations of the people who made the delegations to police.

Allegations against Williams jeopardise ALP's hold on power

SERIOUS allegations against another first-time Labor MP have again jeopardised the Palaszczuk government's precarious hold on power.

On Wednesday The Courier Mail published a seven-page report containing numerous allegations against Pumicestone MP Rick Williams.

The newspaper stated the claims against Mr Williams, who is part of the government's legal affairs and community safety committee, were untested.

Labor state secretary Evan Moorhead said Mr Williams had denied acting improperly.

In parliament, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk called for The Courier Mail's statutory declarations from people making allegations against Mr Williams to be handed in to the police.

She dodged opposition questions about when she first heard the allegations, if she had tested the veracity of the claims and if Mr Williams should step down.

Instead, Ms Palaszczuk repeatedly urged any evidence supporting the claims to be given to police.

Mr Williams laughed off Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg's condemnation of the allegations.

Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt also sidestepped suggestions Mr Williams should stand down from the legal affairs committee or his role as Pumicestone MP.

Mr Pitt said no evidence had been provided and there had been nothing to suggest he could not do his job as an MP.

He refuted suggestions of double-standards when Mr Williams was compared to Cook MP Billy Gordon, who was forced from Labor earlier this year when unpaid child support and tax, along with domestic violence, allegations were made.
