Alleged shooting threat at QLD high school

CONCERNED parents are refusing to send their students to a Gold Coast high school today following an alleged threat from a student to shoot fellow classmates.

A number of parents from Elanora State High School contacted the Bulletin about "messages and screenshots that are circulating of a conversation between two students of Elanora SHS that refers to concerns of another student threatening to harm others".

A school spokesman said they had contacted police and no students were at risk. "It is a normal school day."

Police confirmed they have undertaken a full investigation, and don't believe it is a legitimate threat.

However, one concerned parent told the Bulletin: "The students are scared.

"I only found out last night, and have had no notification from the school about the issue.

"It's the school's responsibility to let us know what's going on - I'm disgusted and flabbergasted nothing has been sent to us."

After contacting Palm Beach Police Station, parents reached out to the school for clarification and were met with "laughing, followed by them saying 'it's been dealt with'.

Just before 9am this morning, the school posted on their Facebook page that they had been in touch with police this morning.

"The school is aware of messages and screenshots that are circulating of a conversation between two students of Elanora SHS that refers to concerns of another student threatening to harm others," the post said.

"The school has been in contact with the QPS and parents of students involved.

"QPS have investigated the incident and are on site and do not believe students and staff are at risk.

"The school is supporting those students involved through the Guidance Officer and meetings have been arranged with key parents.

"The school will continue to monitor the wellbeing of all students and the safety of all on site is our first priority.

"There is no risk to students at the school and it is a normal school day."

When contacted this morning, the school said no one was available to comment.
