Alton Downs man in critical condition

THE 51-year-old man who was involved in a tractor accident on Monday at Alton Downs is in a critical condition in the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

The man, who was airlifted by RACQ Capricorn Rescue Helicopter to Rockhampton Hospital, was flown to Brisbane on Monday night after extensive surgery.

Authorities confirmed the man was using a tractor to pull another piece of machinery from a bog when the towing hitch broke loose from the bogged vehicle and smashed through the rear window of the tractor.

The man was struck in the back by the towing hitch and was rendered unconscious.

He suffered a broken pelvis, multiple facial and head wounds as well as internal injuries.

Messages of support have flooded The Bulletin's Facebook page where people have left their well wishes for the man and his family.

Some online readers have also commented on similar accidents happening to them on rural properties.
