Boy burned by tap as lighting strikes house

A FIVE-year-old boy has reportedly suffered burns to his hands after hanging on to a tap when lightning struck a house a on Gold Coast. 

Queensland Ambulance Servicetreated a number of people after lightning struck a home at Tallai on the Gold Coast. 

QAS states via Twitter that the strike happened about 4.30pm. 

News Corp reports the five-year-old was transported for care about 4.45pm. 

"He was hanging onto a tap at the time the house or near the house was struck by lightning .. he's been taken to Robina hospital in a stable condition," Gavin Fuller from Queensland Ambulance

"That lightning has travelled through the roof, through the eaves, onto a metal fence and down into the cement, and it has blown quite a large hole in the cement."

The news comes as yet another round of storms bears down on south-east Queensland. 

This afternoon the Bureau of Meteorology has issued storm warnings for both the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast - as well as further north to Gympie and much of the adjacent hinterland.
