Amy gets tastebuds talking with her creative food flair
IF YOU'RE ever looking for Amy Thomas, chances are you'll find her in the kitchen cooking for family and friends or the wider community.
But lately the Yeppoon mum-of-two can be found each Saturday whipping up tasty, wholesome breakfast food with a modern twist at the Yeppoon Community Markets - the first hot food vendor to serve there in about 15 years.
With a huge passion for food and the joy it brings others, she recently launched her own catering business Creative Gourmet, with a focus on health and quality.
"Everything's made from scratch," Amy said.
"I bake every day, I have four big cake platters and everyday they're filled with something different.
"My mum kind of inspired me to cook alternate foods; I never grew up with the general packed lunch at school. So I'm very adventurous when I cook and I love trying new things. My daughter's favourite meal is a strawberry, haloumi cheese and rocket salad."
Catering for different events on the Capricorn Coast and Rockhampton including OMFest on Saturday, Amy said she wanted to continue to offer the area her skills, which had received wonderful feedback.
"I do a lot of gluten and dairy free foods, but for my breakfast menu at the markets I almost do a naughty but nice menu with breakfast wraps, chia cups, raw energy balls, special pancakes or crepes, and a frittata with roast pumpkin," Amy said.
"I have added to the menu but right now I'm just working out the market of who is coming and buying what. The wraps were a sell-out on the weekend."
Amy said one of the reasons she approached the Yeppoon markets with her idea, was because of the fond memories she had of the bakery that operated there some years ago.
"My mum and I would get a chai tea or croissant and walk around and do our shopping, which I always enjoyed," she said.
Amy's breakfast menu is available at Yeppoon Showgrounds from 6-10am every Saturday.
