Five cent coins, sticky tape used to make knuckledusters

AN OVERSUPPLY of five cent coins and a heap of sticky tape fashioned into a makeshift set of knuckledusters landed a Mount Morgan man with a $750 fine this week.

Jermaine Leroy Oram pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Tuesday to one count each of possessing utensils used in the connection of smoking a dangerous drug and possessing a weapon following a police raid at his home on October 1.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kathryn Stafford told the court police searched the 22-year-old's home at 2pm when they found two brass pipes and a set of home-made knuckledusters.

"He made them himself out of five cent pieces taped together," defence lawyer Shayne Studdert said.

"They were never used as a weapon."

Magistrate Michael O'Driscoll fined Oram $750.
