Angry Jeep customer fights back for lemon laws

AN ANGRY customer who took to YouTube to express in song his fury at receiving a "lemon" Grand Cherokee Jeep from Fiat Chrysler Australia has attracted more than 300,000 viewers in just two days.

Teg Sethi of Melbourne was inspired by the social media Destroy My Jeep campaign launched by Maroochydore's Ashton Wood which has already led to a Queensland Government review of consumer protection legislation.

Mr Wood flew to Melbourne last weekend to play a role in the hilarious music video "I made a mistake I bought a Jeep" which took Teg two days of filming and another two editing to create with the help of mates in the film industry.

He said he expected the four-minute clip to reach more than one million viewers by today.
 

Federal Consumer Affairs Minister Kelly O'Dwyer has failed to respond to questions about whether she would consider national "lemon" laws to better protect new vehicle purchasers.

Fiat Chrysler Australia is under renewed attack from cranky consumers with vehicle owners furious that serious concerns they have about safety won't be reviewed until 2017 under an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission "Customer Redress Program" order.

The vehicle distributor took 55 days of the 60 allowed under the order to contact customers informing them that complaints made between January, 2013, and December, 2014, would be addressed in order of receipt during 2016 and 2017.

Questioned about the time it had taken Fiat Chrysler Australia to comply with the order and the long delays in having complaints reviewed a spokesman for the ACCC referred the Daily back to a September 11 press release and said it would make no further comment.

A spokesperson for Fiat Chrysler said it was complying with the terms of its administrative undertaking to the ACCC.

"FCA Australia has contacted those customers who are eligible to have their past complaint reviewed, within 60 days, as required by the administrative undertaking," the spokesperson said.

"FCA Australia cannot conduct all of the agreed reviews simultaneously and accordingly they will be conducted over a period of time, in the same order as the complaints were lodged with FCA Australia."

Mr Sethi's Grand Cherokee Jeep which cost him $61,000 in November 2013 has been beset with problems since. The vehicle goes into "limp mode" while travelling at 100kmh.
