Angry Landry goes on poltical warpath with North Queensland

MICHELLE Landry is on the warpath.

The Capricornia MP has "declared war" on far north Queensland, claiming their industry, research and political leaders have hijacked the decision-making process driving the future development of Northern Australia.

She is furious that Central Queensland has been overlooked as a key player in the Federal Government's long-term plan and is demanding our region receives the recognition it deserves.

That, she says, is vital for our future development.

Ms Landry said Rockhampton and inland Capricornia were in danger of being overlooked by northern politicians, lobbyists and bureaucrats who were conveniently ignoring CQ's full potential.

"When examining the future potential of Northern Australia the parliamentary process was supposed to look at a line on the map from the Tropic of Capricorn upwards," she said.

"That lines starts in the centre of Rockhampton city but what we appear to be seeing so far is an attempt to exclude this region from having a serious role to play in Northern Australia's future economic expansion.

"That is very wrong."

Ms Landry said key players in CQ had put forward submissions demonstrating how the region could contribute to the economic development of Australia's North, but it appeared they had been ignored.

"It's simply astonishing and unacceptable and serves to show the contempt that those driving their own agendas for Northern Australia have for Central Queensland," she said.

"I am gearing up for war against the North and I will start throwing proverbial 'cow pats' at them if that's what it takes to give Central Queensland fair consideration."

Ms Landry knows her stance will put her on a collision course with some of her political allies, but she is ready for the contest.

"I'm here to represent my electorate and show my colleagues that we mean business,'' she said.

"I am not taking this lying down. If there was ever a time to stand up and shake the tree, it's now. I'd urge every motivated community and industry leader in Central Queensland to join the rage and get our region on the radar."
