Animal lover takes out Pinefest crown after raising $10,000

ONE look at Grace Scantlebury's dog and you know exactly why she is so passionate about helping animals.

The 27-year-old was crowned this year's Pinefest Ambassador on October 17 after raising a massive $10,950 for charity.

Half of the money will go to the Lions Club and the other half to her charity of choice, Four Paws Adoption and Education.

"I have a soft spot for animals," Grace said last week after taking pride of place in the parade.

"I love my dogs so I would do anything for them. We want to take the burden off the pound and other welfare charities.

"I just wanted to do as much as I can."

For her fundraising efforts, Grace also took home the charity award.

It was well-earned, with the Yeppoon pharmacist holding high tea events, dinner parties, bake sales and sausage sizzles for the better part of this year.

Grace said she had been a resident of Yeppoon for five years now, after relocating from the Gold Coast for work.

She said she hadn't looked back and credited the days after Cyclone Marcia as her inspiration for entering the annual ambassador quest.
