Fire in the Sky lights up Fitzroy

THE Fitzroy River exploded with colour on Saturday night.

Thousands of people watched the sky light up with a fireworks extravaganza.

At 7pm, families covered the banks of the Fitzroy River, claiming the best seats they could to watch the annual Sea FM and Harvey Norman Fire in the Sky.

The free family event is a highlight on the Christmas calendar for Rockhampton, and Saturday’s show didn’t disappoint.

Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Brad Carter sang a Christmas carol with hosts Chooky and Brad, who did a live broadcast from Fire in the Sky for Sea FM.

There was plenty of entertainment to keep people busy, including markets, a free kids’ zone, games, competitions and prizes.

The typical traffic chaos followed the fireworks show, which will hopefully be back next year.

The Morning Bulletin photographer ALLAN REINIKKA was on the river bank on Saturday night to snap all the action from the night.
