New mobile gourmet wood-fired pizza business

GYMPIE couple David and Cathy Howe hope to tempt the tastebuds of Gympie residents with their new mobile gourmet wood-fired pizza business.

Fire in the Belly Pizza was fresh out of the oven in January and is another string in Mrs Howe's bow.

She and David have lived in the region for 25 years and Mrs Howe's face is readily recognised by many, thanks to her existing mobile hairdressing business.

Mrs Howe has also operated a dance company, Quintessence Belly Dance, for the past four years.

The decision to launch a mobile gourmet wood-fired pizza was easy, given her experience working in an Italian restaurant "for years".

"Gympie town definitely needed a wood-fired pizza," Mrs Howe said.

The couple is committed to mouth-watering pizzas and has completed a cooking course in wood-fired pizza making - ensuring customers only chomp into the best pizza.

Fire in the Belly Pizza has obtained a permanent Friday night position in Gympie in addition to covering all types of events in the region.

The new location comes after a successful public trial last Saturday night.

Mrs Howe was excited to confirm yesterday the pizza business' permanent location would be in the front car park of the Gympie South School each Friday from 5pm. Mrs Howe said she would "test the waters" for a month.

"Friday night after a big week people just want to get home and not have to cook, so I say grab one of our gourmet wood-fired pizzas and enjoy a glass of wine to wind down," she said.
