An awesome run by King Hunter for course record

OUTSTANDING sprinting, three-year-old King Hunter slashed champion sprinter Rash Action's course record in a thrilling win, which had developed into a three-horse war, over the concluding stages of the $17,000 QRSE Class 6 Handicap (1000m) at Callaghan Park racecourse, Rockhampton yesterday.

Burdened with 58.5kg, some 4.5kg above the time honoured Weight-For-Age scale, King Hunter, under vigorous riding from Dennis Whitmore, chased hard in the straight to overhaul gutsy mare Cindy Kate (Tony Pattillo), and win by a short-neck.

Crystal Lane, who set the tempo for the record breaking time, led until 50 metres from the finish, where firstly Cindy Kate headed her before being overwhelmed by King Hunter.

A graduate of the Capricorn Yearling Sales in Rockhampton, King Hunter, raced by Bill Boys and family, took his prizemoney haul to $91,100 under the astute tutorship of trainer Dave Badham.

Earlier the same partnership had won the $14,700 QTIS 2YO Handicap (1000m) with another Capricorn Sales purchase in the promising Dodge gelding Deceiving, who raced generously and givingly under Shayla Quick.
