Arsonist leaves woman?s car charred ruin

ROCKHAMPTON firebug destroyed Christine Holman's car at the weekend, sparking safety fears in the south Rockhampton neighbourhood.

Yesterday, as Ms Holman cast an eye over the vehicle's charred interior, she said she was shocked by the arson.

Her car was one of three items police believe was deliberately set on fire along Ross Street late on Friday.

Two wheelie bins were also set on fire further up the road.

Ms Holman was out having a good time with friends when her partner called to tell her the Toyota Tercel she affectionately called "The Turtle'' was in flames.

"To think this could happen out in front of your house,'' Ms Holman said.

"It makes me feel unsafe. You feel this sort of thing doesn't happen in Rockhampton ... but it does. I worry what they will do next.''

She had been using it to teach her 18-year-old daughter to drive.

"The kids have grown up with this car, it's a big shock to see it like this,'' she said.

"It was insured, but by the time you take the excess out there won't be that much left.

She had been in the process of selling the car.

"I just won't have the money now (I would have had) from the trade.''

Police are investigating.
