Barsby lands double prize

ROCKHAMPTON outrigger Kathy Barsby has scooped the pool at the Wai Puhi OC1/OC2 northern zone finals in Mackay on the weekend.

Barsby won the OC1 open women's final 19km race which also claimed her the overall series title.

The series also offered a lucky prize of a new OC2 canoe, which Barsby also returned home with.

Husband Mick Barsby and fellow Rocky Outrigger Canoe Club member Simon Harris could put the new canoe to use at this Saturday's southern zone finals in Mooloolaba.

They remain undecided on whether to contest the OC2 or OC1 division.

Mick placed third in the OC1 masters division on the weekend to finish second overall in the northern zone series.

In the OC2 division, Rockhampton's Kate Watson and Rachel Chadwick won their final race.

Watson had double cause to celebrate.

This result had them tie for the series lead with the combination of Watson and Rockhampton's Leanne Francis, who also competed as a team throughout the season.

Conditions provided northerly winds with choppy conditions, some surf and racing against the current throughout the race.
