Beware: Sex pervert at large
By EVAN SCHWARTEN
THIS is the man police believe was responsible for the sexual assault of a 58-year-old woman in broad daylight on Farnborough Beach on Sunday.
Police released the image yesterday afternoon based on a description given by the victim.
It's alleged he approached the woman, who was visiting the region on holidays, around 10am while she was walking near the Barwells Creek area of the beach.
He knocked her to the ground and sexually attacked her before escaping through the sand dune near beach access 11.
And police warn he is still at large.
"It's an isolated incident but I would suggest people walking in that area walk with someone else or stick to more popular areas,'' Detective Sergeant Andrew Broadfoot from the Yeppoon CIB said.
He asked anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack to contact police.
The attacker is described as a caucasian male, aged about 48, 177cm tall of slim build with tanned skin and brown sandy coloured hair.
It's believed he wore a brown button-up shirt and brown knee-length pants and was carrying a brown beach towel and beige headband.
Police are also on the hunt for a man who attempted to rape a 20-year-old woman in Bolsover Street on Saturday night.
The victim was reportedly waiting outside a closed takeaway store on the corner of Bolsover and South Streets shortly after 10pm when the attack occurred.
It's alleged the offender asked her to perform a sexual act on him and punched her in the face when she refused.
He tried to remove her clothes. The woman escaped by poking him in the eye and kneeing him in the stomach.
The Rockhampton CIB has so far been unable to release a comfit of the suspect but he is described as early 20s, 170cm tall and of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearence.
He was wearing a white shirt, black pants and a baseball cap at the time of the offence and was last seen heading in the direction of the Great Western Hotel.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
