Blades cling to their edge

BUCKANEERS Blades have shot to a thrilling Rockhampton Netball Association Senior A division minor premiership, but their title defence faces the ultimate test in next week's semi-finals.

The defending champions clinched top spot from joint leaders Wanderers after their finalround 63-42 win over Brothers Magenta at Jardine Park courts on Wednesday night.

The minor premiership came down to a shoot-out and arch-rivals Wanderers came to the party with an equally-impressive 72-24 victory against Pumas Midnight.

However, late yesterday match officials awarded Buckaneers the minor premiership, which was decided on goal averages. Just like their on-court rivalry, Buckaneers (31.8%) edged out Wanderers (30.9%) by the slimmest of margins.

The competition sharp-shooters now meet in next Wednesday night's major semi-final, with their last encounter ending in a thrilling 45-all draw.

In the minor semi-final, Runaways Diamonds will take on surprise semi-finalists Brothers Crimson.

Brothers Crimson snuck into the top four ahead of Pumas Midnight on games averages after their 32-20 win over Angels Saints.
