Blyton set for Heelers run-on role

By AARON KELLY ? MOURA'S Jamie "Spotty'' Blyton is set to win a starting debut for the Queensland Country Heelers in Bundaberg this weekend. Blyton, 30, was yesterday named at inside centre for Queensland Country's round-two Australian Rugby Shield clash against Darwin on Saturday. The Dawson Valley Drovers player-coach, who made his long-awaited Queensland Country debut in Perth last Saturday, is expected to replace injured Gold Coast playmaker and Heelers captain Joe Fa Alonga in the starting side.

Heelers coach Terry Shiells said yesterday Blyton had done enough to warrant a starting berth in his powerful 30 minutes off the bench in last Saturday's 19-12 opening round loss to Perth.

Blyton joins Dawson Valley teammate and Rockhampton captain Joel Johnston, who earned a Queensland Country recall yesterday, and Frenchville Pioneers forward Sean Kearns in the Heelers squad.

Darwin are coming off a last-gasp 19-17 win over Melbourne in the opening round.

Shiells said victory in this weekend's clash was crucial for his team's title chances.

The Queensland Country squad assemble in Bundaberg on Friday. Rockhampton's Rugby Park will host the Heelers' round-five showdown with Adelaide on June 4.
