Broncos, Cowboys in Rocky blockbuster

THE North Queensland Cowboys and Brisbane Broncos will kick-off their 2006 season in front of an expected "sell-out'' crowd in Rockhampton next year.

The Queensland rivals hit Browne Park in a trial game on February 11 which headlines a bumper month of footy action for Central Queensland fans.

It will be a sneak preview to the Cowboys and Broncos opening round NRL clash in Brisbane in March.

Cowboys flyer Ty Williams, in Rockhampton for yesterday's announcement, said it was the perfect platform to kick-start the Cowboys' premiership campaign next season after their grand final loss to the Wests Tigers.

The Central Comets will also play the Manly Sea Eagles on February 4 and Cronulla Sharks on February 18 in the lead-up to next year's Queensland Wizard Cup.

Comets chairman Rob Crow said it would be the biggest game at Browne Park since the ground's redevelopment and extensions at the Rockhampton Leagues Club.

"With the popularity of both teams we are expecting a sellout,'' he said.

"The Comets are again proud to provide a February football feast for the people of Central Queensland in which four of the top eight NRL sides from 2005 will be on show.''

Tickets for all games go on sale in January.
