Buckaneers find their feet

NEW combinations are finding their feet at the right time in the season for Buckaneers.

The defending Rockhampton Netball Association Senior A division champions are first into the grand final after a 54-47 win over Wanderers at Jardine Park on Wednesday night.

After joining forces this season, Buckaneers defenders Marni Shephard and Joelle Waardyk are getting better with every game.

Their hungry defence halted the dangerous Wanderers' tall shooting pairing of Angela Horn and Tanya Flamank.

"We knew we had to step up with the height factor and create the turnovers,'' Shephard said.

Wanderers (78%) finished with a superior shooting percentage to their Buckaneers (67%) counterparts, but it was livewire centre Kate Bromley and wing attack Tanya Shuker who put Buckaneers on course for victory with their accurate passing to the shooting circle.

Wanderers now meet Runaways Diamonds in next Wednesday night's preliminary final.

The winners will play Buckaneers in the decider tomorrow week.

Runaways Diamonds had to work hard in their 42-24 elimination semi-final win over Brothers Crimson after trailing by one goal at halftime.
