Buckaneers to face vengeful Wanderers

THE Buckaneers Blades Senior A division netball team has notched up one big win, but another tough game awaits against Wanderers next Wednesday.

Buckaneers landed a 55-34 win over fellow title contenders Runaways Diamonds on Wednesday night at Rockhampton's Jardine Park.

Chasing back-to-back premierships this season, Buckaneers led by one goal at both quarter time and half time before convincingly winning the third quarter 12-4 and the last 16-4.

Buckaneers' circle defence combination of Marni Shephard (goal keeper) and Joelle Waardyk (goal defence) shut down the Runaways goals after a tight first half contest with their opposition shooters, Hayley Bean and Melissa Walls.

Toni Easton, Buckaneers' wing defence, also proved a nuisance in helping shut down the Runaways fast attack.

Buckaneers also made game winning changes at half time with Kate Bromley coming on as centre and Tanya Attard.

In the Buckaneers shooting department Lori McGahan and Sally Kuhl were pushed all the way by Keanna Hopkins and Alysha Kuhl with their extra height giving them the edge.

Scores ? Buckaneers Blades 55 d Runaways Diamonds 34, Pumas Midnight 44 d Angels Saints 24, Brothers Crimson 45 d Brothers Magenta 34.
