Buckaneers top table in both divisions

BUCKANEERS teams have extended their premiership lead in the countdown to this year's Rockhampton Touch Association finals series.

The Buckaneers men's side sealed the Premier League minor premiership with an emphatic 10-1 win over Prime Time at Cyril Connell touch fields on Wednesday night.

Australian representative Gavin Shuker led the charge with a hat-trick, while younger brother, Ian, and rising star Ben Matheson grabbed doubles.

With one round to go before the finals, Buckaneers edged clear of the second-placed Bulldogs, despite the Bulldogs' 7-2 victory against CQU Vipers.

Daniel Powell was the hero, scoring three touch downs, while Mitchel Smith, Justin Connolly, Grant Williams and Jarvarn White also found the line.

Buckaneers have also clinched the A Ladies minor premiership after a 2-0 win over CQU Shagadelics, with Leah Cheal and Emma Cheng the scorers.

In the other game, Bulldogs and Magpies played out an exciting 2-all draw.

Top spot in A Masters will be decided in the final round on Monday night when CQU Bullants take on Eels.

Meanwhile, the Central Queensland Championships hit Rockhampton tomorrow week, with teams arriving from Gladstone, Bundaberg, Emerald, Blackwater and Dysart.
