A PRISONER from the Capricornia Correctional Centre is believed to be recovering in Rockhampton Hospital following a scalding and bashing incident at the jail on Tuesday.
Rockhampton CIB Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Dalton said a 21-year-old inmate had allegedly seriously assaulted another inmate, 29, about 3.30pm.
He said the younger man is alleged to have thrown boiling water at the other man's face.
Senior Sergeant Dalton said the younger man is then alleged to have kicked and punched the other inmate.
Senior Sergeant Dalton said it is believed the two inmates knew each other before the attack.
The 29-year-old was taken to Rockhampton Hospital and is being treated for severe burns to his face and shoulders. He also suffered other injuries such as bruising from the alleged bashing.
Senior Sergeant Dalton said the injured man may have to be flown south for further burns treatment.
"The burns will be quite severe.
"He may have to go to Brisbane yet,'' Senior Sergeant Dalton said.
The 21-year-old man was yesterday afternoon charged with grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning bodily harm.
He is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on June 3.
