Capricornia reps excel
REPRESENTATIVE games are few and far between for AFL Capricornia league players this year, but they are making the most of any opportunity.
Capricornia produced a 10-1777 to 10-10-70 win over Wide Bay in Bundaberg on Saturday in their only representative game this season.
Yeppoon's Jason Chisholm, initially named on the interchange, was inspirational in the back pocket with his tireless defence being named best on ground as the Capricornia team snatched a victory in the dying stages of the game.
Little separated the two teams throughout the contest with the host team leading by 10 points at the first break and extended its lead to 14 points at half-time.
Capricornia then struck in the premiership (third) quarter with half forward Greg Lavey, forward Nathan Shipard and captain/coach Steve Smithwick, playing in the centre, leading the charge to give their team an eight-point lead entering the final term.
The Wide Bay Tigers were relentless, drawing level in the 22nd-minute mark of the fourth term after three quick goals.
Capricornia then found that one goal they needed, combined with a late point, to seal the win. The two regions will meet again next year when Rockhampton hosts the Queensland Country trials.
