Capricornia seventh

A STRONG 27-point win over Townsville guided the AFL Capricornia team to a winning finish at the state Under-16 Country Championships in Cairns.

Capricornia finished in seventh spot with poor kicking in two games costing them a chance of a higher place finish.

Even though they finished off the pace, Capricornia had three players ? Matt Wallin (Yeppoon), Paul O'Shea (Brothers) and BITS Saints onballer Jake Mostert were picked in the Queensland Country Kookaburras squad.

Coach Gary Shipard was proud of his players commitment over the weekend, but added they should have won three of their four matches.

"The boys did really well considering we lost a couple of key players shortly before we left,'' Shipard said.

"I thought we had chances in three of the four games to win.
