Carols families enjoy cracker of a night

LOCAL talent was the winner at Rockhampton's Carols by Candlelight on Saturday night. Manager of Rockhampton Venues and Events, Peter Owens, said the event staged at the Music Bowl was one of the best of recent years.

"It was well supported,'' he said.

"We had between seven and eight thousand people there.''

Families and friends could be seen getting into the spirit, singing along to carols with candles and glow sticks in hand. Mr Owens said the highlight of the night was the community participation and local talent, rather than a featured artist.

"We have moved away from a featured artist,'' he said.

"We have so many talented young people in Rockhampton. "So we decided to focus on them.''

A fireworks display topped off the night for excited revellers.

It proved a winning mix, as the awe-struck crowd enjoyed the talent and fireworks and left smiling.
