Carrigg has winning day

By TONY McMAHON ? TEENAGE Rockhampton apprentice jockey Donna Carrigg will always remember the day freakish mare Makybe Diva created history by winning her third consecutive Melbourne Cup. Carrigg set her own record for the second successive Melbourne Cup race day at Rockhampton's Callaghan Park racecourse.

Last year she rode her first career race double the same day when Makybe Diva won the 2004 Melbourne Cup.

Yesterday, Donna joined in the celebrations with Maykbe Diva as she rode a winning treble at Callaghan Park.

Co-starring with youthful Rockhampton trainer Tim Cook, the pair won the first three races combining with Forever Bill ($4.00), Holly Bush Honey ($3.80) and Our Jim Beau ($1.70).

Quite possibly only for being caught out wide on Jonnywoo ($4.00) in the final race, the Maiden Plate (1400m), the trainer and apprentice may have claimed the four-race program.

Bookmakers reported columns of bets on Makybe Diva in the Cup while on-course totalisator outlets were kept busy throughout the afternoon.

Facilities will be in full swing at Callaghan Park tomorrow for the Greyhound Race Club's card which coincides with the VRC Oaks meeting at Flemington.
