Chadwick hopes for blockbuster

ROCKHAMPTON'S Glen Chadwick is hoping his first appearance in this week's Jacobs Creek Tour Down Under heralds the start of a blockbuster year.

Chadwick will make his race debut for US professional team, Navigators Insurance, in today's Jacob's Creek Down Under Classic in Adelaide.

The 29-year-old is "ready to roll'' following last weekend's controversial men's road race at the Australian Road Cycling Championships and arrives in his new team after another groundbreaking season riding throughout Europe.

Chadwick said he was looking forward to launching his 2006 campaign with a strong first-up performance, starting with today's criterium race, which is expected to draw a crowd of over 10,000 spectators.

Tomorrow's opening stage is a 148km journey from Mawson Lakes to Angaston.

Meanwhile, fellow Rockhampton cyclist Miles Olman, 19, has joined a South Australia.com AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) cycling training camp in Adelaide this week in preparations for next week's Tour of Wellington in New Zealand.
