Coast man put in coma in hospital

COLIN Crane of Yeppoon is in a stable but critical condition in a drug-induced coma in Royal Brisbane Hospital after he was allegedly bashed in Yeppoon last week.

Details of the incident were only released yesterday after Yeppoon detectives charged an 18-year-old Emu Park man with causing Mr Crane grievous bodily harm.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Broadfoot said Mr Crane, 46, was walking along Hill Street on Thursday night with his girlfriend when he was allegedly attacked.

Sergeant Broadfoot said the 18-year-old allegedly punched Mr Crane in the face, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.

Mr Crane was taken to Yeppoon Hospital in the early hours of Friday morning and was transported to Rockhampton Hospital later that day.

He was later airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Yesterday afternoon, a spokesperson from the Royal Brisbane Hospital said Mr Crane was in a stable condition in the intensive care unit.

The 18-year-old man was released on bail conditions to appear in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on Thursday, May 4.
