Comets recruits on trial early

? THE Central Queensland Comets will waste no time unleashing recruits Scott Porter and Kristian Mene.

Both players arrived in Rockhampton this week and will join the Comets Minniecon and Burke Pre-Season Challenge clash against the Cronulla Sharks at Browne Park on Saturday night.

Porter, 21, will line-up in the halves after joining the Comets from the Sydney Roosters.

Also named in a 19-man squad yesterday for this weekend's trial was prop forward Mene, who has been training with the Parramatta Eels.

Comets coach Matt Parish said the club's latest signings could expect plenty of game time against a "young and fast'' Cronulla side.

Parish said ball control and discipline were just two areas his side would look to improve on after their opening 34-18 trial loss to Manly.

Comets ? (Backs) Wade Rothery, Odell Manuell, Mitchell Smith, McConkie Tauasa, Dean Loader, Jimmy McConachy, Scott Porter, Darren Rodgers, Denny Lambert. (Forwards) Aaron Sweeney, Herewini Rangi, Jade Wogand, Peter Penaia, Kristian Mene, Kurt Cawdron, Andrew Dale, Marty Oborne, Ryan Peters, Tyron Haynes.
