Comets score convincing win

? THE Central Queensland Comets Queensland Cup rugby league team opened its 2006 campaign on a winning note in Gladstone last night.

Playing in their first trial game of the season the Comets produced a commanding 62-10 win over a near full-strength combined Gladstone team at Gladstone's Marley Brown Oval.

Playing before a crowd of about 1500 spectators, Gladstone held a 4-0 lead after just four minutes before the Comets burst into action.

The Comets led 10-4 at quarter time, 38-4 at half time and extended the lead to 44-4 at three-quarter time.

Wade Rothery's pace at fullback was devastating while the newlook halves combination of Darren Rodgers and Scott Briggs controlled the play.

The Comets squad is again on show in Springsure today.
