Couple in murder suicide
INVESTIGATIONS are under way into the murder-suicide of an Alpha couple found dead in their car about 10km north of Blackall on Saturday afternoon.
Police found the bodies of husband and wife 56year-old William Anderson and 53-year-old Marina Anderson, about 3.30pm following a tip-off from a concerned friend.
Both bodies suffered suspected gunshot wounds to the head.
Regional Crime Co-ordinator Inspector Mick Niland said last night that Mr Anderson had contacted a female friend in Townsville earlier that afternoon to confess to murdering his wife.
The woman then contacted police who started a patrol of the Blackall-Jericho Road before locating the vehicle parked at a council quarry.
Inspector Niland said police were yet to determine a motive for the murder.
It is believed Mr Anderson was travelling from the couple's home at Alpha, west of Emerald, to Blackall in search of a trucking job.
Inspector Niland said the Andersons' 33-year-old daughter, also an Alpha resident, had been informed of the deaths. Alpha residents contacted by The Morning Bulletin were unaware of the tragedy yesterday.
But the deaths were the talk of the town in Blackall.
"A lot of people have been calling up, concerned it might have been a relative but no-one really knows anything,'' a resident, who did not want to be named, said.
Another resident said: "Everyone has been talking about it but if anyone knows anything they are keeping pretty quiet.
"It's a bit of a strange one, if they (police) hadn't gotten a tipoff no-one would go out there.''
A post-mortem examination is due to take place in Rockhampton today.
