Court sequel to city suburban shooting

A NORTH Rockhampton man yesterday appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court charged over a shooting in a suburban street on Sunday afternoon.

Rick Selwyn Urquhart, 20, is charged with grievous bodily harm, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a shortened firearm over the Little Musgrave Street shooting.

He appeared grim-faced as he was led into court around midday for the two-minute mention and remained largely expressionless throughout the appearance.

No application for bail was made and magistrate Annette Hennessy adjourned the matter until November 22.

He was not required to enter a plea.

The alleged shooting occurred shortly before 5.30pm on Sunday and resulted in a man being transported to Rockhampton Hospital with leg wounds.

Nearby residents claim to have heard yelling followed by "something that sounded like a whip'' before seeing a car speed away from the scene.

Police turned up at the scene shortly after wearing bullet proof vests and blocking off the street. Scenes of Crime officers returned to the street yesterday morning to continue investigations.
