CQ mudlarks in full flight

CENTRAL Queensland's mud racing season will get off to a flying start at the Kabra motorsport park this weekend.

A total of 32 competitors will be revving up on Saturday afternoon for the Gracemere Twin Tracks Mud Sprints.

CQ Mudsports club president Shane Titmarsh said recent rainfall had left the track in ideal condition for the event.

"The rain has been good to us, we've got plenty of water and mud,'' he said.

"The track should be spot on.''

He said competitors couldn't wait to hit to the track.

"We haven't raced for a while because we take a break over winter,'' he said.

The event sees competitors race against each other on identical parallel figure eight tracks.

Titmarsh, the 2002-2004 Australian mud racing champion will be competing in his new orange hotrod Mudda.

He said competitors ranged from 10-year-old juniors to top guns running on a mixture of nitro and alcohol. He said the event would kick off around 3pm with junior races followed by the top guns from 5.30pm until late.
