CQ?s most successful team ...

WITH a winning streak that stretches for 17 matches and nearly two years RockWheelies could lay claim to being one of CQ's most successful sporting teams.

The wheelchair basketball team returned from the North Queensland Games in Mackay last weekend with a clean sweep of all six of their games.

"It has been a pretty good run .?.?. we are a much stronger team this year than ever before,'' coach Danny Robson said.

The games also constitute rounds one and two of the northern championship and wins in round three later this year will allow the team to defend their title as reining champions.

It's a remarkable achievement for the team whose squad consists of just seven players, some of whom live as far away as Biloela and are unable to make it to training in Rockhampton.

Despite their success the team are struggling to find sponsors and haven't even been able to afford team shorts.

"Everything these guys do they have to pay for themselve.''

And Mr Robson, who is able bodied, said the game was more difficult to play than conventional basketball.

"I've been playing basketball for 15 years but I get in a chair and I'm useless.
