Cyclones focus on season?s first win

SIMONE Grant has vowed to maintain the intensity as the Rockhampton Hog's Breath Cafe Cyclones look for the first win of their QABL Sunstate Division 2005 campaign on the Gold Coast tonight.

Grant, a shining light for the Cyclones in opening rounds, will try to continue her form in this weekend's double-header.

Averaging 36 minutes and 19 points, Grant credits hard work during the off-season to her bright start to 2005.

"I've been happy so far (this season) and have been working hard at practice,'' said Grant, who will have two extra supporters in the Gold Coast crowd with her parents making the trek down the highway from the Sunshine Coast.

The Cylones will take on a Gold Coast outfit coming off a thrilling 67-58 win over Cairns inspired by veteran WNBL star Jenny Whittle.

Cyclones coach and injured Rocket Mike McShane said his team had to continue to improve with their execution. "We need to get the momentum rolling early.'' While McShane's broken hand is a massive blow to the Rockets, the American import said he would devote more time and energy to the Cyclones' game plan.

The Cylones back up against South West Metro tomorrow night.
