Daniel rustles up fine form for touch

ROCKHAMPTON'S Daniel Withers has been "training the house down'' in preparation for another bumper season of touch.

Withers will hit the field running next week when the Rockhampton Touch Association 2006 winter season starts.

Once again the team nominations are overwhelming with 151 teams.

The Monday night mixed and masters competition will host 78 teams with the men's and women's teams hitting the field on Wednesday night.

Withers will line up for Buckaneers in the A grade men's competition and fitness should not be a problem early in the season.

The 23-year-old is preparing to represent the Queensland Country Rustlers open men's team at the National Touch League in Coffs Harbour next month.

Joining Withers are Rockhampton's Gavin Shuker, Clint Withers, Michael Devonshire and Trevor Moran.

"We've been flogging ourselves,'' said Withers, with the group working through four running sessions a week plus skills work.

The Rustlers were undefeated in the regular rounds last year before being bundled out in the semi-finals.

Open divisions contest the NTL from March 10-13 before several CQ players will play in senior age divisions from March 15-18.
