Daren dogged by daily trials

By TAMARA KEMP

BEING attacked by dogs and run over by cars is all in a day's work for postie Daren Longobardi.

Rockhampton's Australia Post team leader postman of seven years said he loved his job, despite the occasional run-ins with the four-legged kind.

"I have been bitten four times and hospitalised once after a dog attack,'' he said.

"There are dogs that jump or bite through the fence when I arrive. I have been bitten on the hand and even had puncture marks through my shoe.''

Mr Longobardi said his first year on the job was the hardest because he was hit by cars twice.

"I had to take four days off work after my first incident, in Alma Street, which injured my tail bone,'' he said.

For him, it was a matter of getting used to the job and being confident.

Mr Longobardi said he covered the main business areas of Rockhampton including Musgrave Street, North Rockhampton, Wandal Road and Canoona Road.

"I love my job because once you get it done, you can go home, which works in great with my lifestyle of having a family.''

Mr Longobardi said he hoped Rockhampton residents could do their bit to keep posties on the beat.

"If we can all work together, it will make our job a whole lot easier,'' he said.
