Dawn told me to just stay focused
By RACHAEL BORICH FORMER Rockhampton cyclist Lorian Graham has received some touching advice from one of Australia's sporting legends, Dawn Fraser.
Graham met Fraser in the VIP tent during yesterday's Noosa Triathlon.
"She shook my hand, it was a fairly lengthy hand shake, and she took time to ask how I was going,'' Graham said.
"She said, 'Focus entirely on yourself and everything will fall into place'.''
Graham joined the Noosa Triathlon festival on the weekend, both as a spectator and competitor.
One of five Australians involved in a crash which killed her AIS team mate Amy Gillet in Germany in July, Graham joined Saturday's Australian Football Legends celebrity triathlon which was won by the Brisbane Lions team of Simon Black, Robert Copeland and Chris Scott.
Graham battled through a 300m swim before former Australian swimming champion Duncan Armstrong, formerly of Rockhampton, was disqualified for taking a short-cut on the run.
"I did a bit of secret training in the pool and thought I was confident I could do it,'' Graham said.
"With Duncan in the swim and me on the bike we would have blitzed them.
"I was swimming confidently up until the 100m mark and then it was all down hill after that ? I was up against people like Ky Hurst.''
Triple M presenter Marto was the team's cyclist.
"After the swim I told my coach (Warren McDonald) that I can guarantee you I won't be a swimmer,'' Graham said.
Graham said it was all fun and good for her rehabilitation.
