Dawson gets Tougher

A HEALTHY Andrew Dawson has ended the reign of Trevor Tougher to win the Yeppoon Men's Closed Championship at the Yeppoon Golf Club on the weekend.

Dawson trailed by four shots entering the fourth, and final round, on Sunday but held his composure to fire a closing three over 74 for a 311 total.

He won from Aaron Malone on 314.

Tougher was on track to win an impressive 11th title after the opening two rounds the previous weekend carding a 141 to lead Malone and Jeff Ingle by 13 shots.

However a bout of the flu forced Tougher off the golf course after playing just six holes on Saturday.

This left six players in contention within five shots of each other.

Malone and Ingle were tying for the lead closely followed by Josh Jennings and Darryn Brown.

Brown fired the best round of the championship on Saturday with a two under 69.

Meanwhile, Rydges' Raelee Oates won this year's Yeppoon Ladies Open Championship on Friday with a five over 76.

Yeppoon's Trish Delaforce was runner-up with an 86 gross score.
