Derby started favourite

THE 25th annual Hobbyhorse Derby raised over $6000 for the Yeppoon Girl Guides on the weekend. The event, held at Beaman Park in Yeppoon, featured 64 hobbyhorse jockeys from the community.

The money was raised through businesses and organisations sponsoring a hobbyhorse jockey.

Even local politicians came out in support. Mayor of Livingstone Shire Bill Ludwig and Member for Keppel Paul Hoolihan participated.

"It was a great day,'' said event organiser Carole Murray. "We thank the community for their generous support, record numbers turned out this year.''

Face painting, camel rides, a jumping castle and refreshments were some of the other activities that attracted people, Ms Murray said.

"We had a lot more people at this year's event than last year,'' she said.

"There were about a dozen races throughout the morning.
